"Turning Green" - American
Association of Woodturners June 2007
- "Ornamental Nuisance; Beautifully
Ornamental"
Description: This
grouping was selected for the
"Turning Green" exhibition
sponsored by the AAW and opened
in Portland Oregon at the Oregon
College of Art and Craft.
The theme of the exhibition was
"green". Green can be
interpreted in many ways such as
environmental consciousness,
recycling, the color green,
etc... The wood used in
this piece was from a Chinese
Tallow tree that a nearby
homeowner removed. It was
destined for a landfill or burn
pile. The Chinese Tallow
tree is also a nuisance plant in
the southeast United States.
In keeping with the theme of the
exhibition, I salvaged wood that
was from a nuisance source that
would have otherwise been
destroyed and turned it into
objects of beauty.
